ATLANTA, Ga. Feb. 20, 2007 – The Spring Book Show, the largest remainder show in the South, is held annually in Atlanta. When the show comes to town this year on March 23-25 at the World Congress Center, educators and librarians – especially those from the metro Atlanta area and the rest of Georgia - will be permitted to attend free. Regular admission is $50 per person.

According to Larry May, the show organizer, less than 10 percent of the books manufactured in the United States get sold at suggested retail price. Most are sold at discounts.

Remainders – the books that don’t sell out at retail or discounted prices, the books that are overtocks and slightly hurts – get sold for as little as 10 cents on the dollar.

The Spring Book Show caters to buyers who purchase titles from dealers who specialize in remainders and returns.

School media specialists, public and academic librarians, school superintendents, principals and other public employees who purchase books will have an opportunity at the Spring Book Show to buy titles – including Caldecott and Newbury children’s book award winners and a wide selection of classics – for far less than retail. According to May, they should be able to quadruple the number of books they could buy at retail with the same dollars.

“Any educator in the State of Georgia can come to the show for free - we will gladly waive the registration fee,” May said. “I want to extend a personal invitation for the Georgia educators and librarians to register for the show at www.springbookshow.com.”

May pointed out that, because the show is held over a weekend, librarians and other public employees may attend on Saturday or Sunday if their normal weekday responsibilities prevent them from attending on Friday.

He said that more than 60 remainder dealers from around the country who will be offering more than 50,000 titles, including thousands of children’s titles at deep-discount prices, have already registered to participate in this year’s show.
