Anaheim's Chance Theater Makes a National Impact in 2006
(
PRLEAP.COM) March 03, 2007 — In 2006, The Chance brought national attention to Orange County through three significant artistic achievements: a prestigious GLAAD Media Award nomination for Outstanding Los Angeles Theater for our critically-acclaimed production of Porcelain; selection as the only Orange County theater to participate in the national 365 Days/365 Plays project; and constituent theater membership in the Theatre Communications Group (TCG) and Network of Ensemble Theaters (NET). On the brink of our Ninth Anniversary Season, The Chance Theater has grown into an award-winning, professional, ensemble-based nonprofit theater organization.
Intimately presenting personally meaningful, uniquely engaging stories that promote dialogue within our community and provide a visceral experience for theatergoers is an ongoing vital component of our mission. As a collaborative of dedicated artists, we recognize that cultural and economic growth is enhanced and supported through the dynamic creation and presentation of exceptional theater. We are very proud to be presenting vital intimate theater in the Southern California region and strengthening our position as a significant arts organization with local, regional, and national impact.
17TH ANNUAL GLAAD MEDIA AWARD NOMINEE
FOR OUTSTANING LOS ANGELES THEATER
Our production of Chay Yew’s Porcelain, directed by The Chance’s visionary Artistic Director Oanh Nguyen, was an Orange County Premiere back in March 2005. The production was one of only 5 nominees chosen from 118 shows under consideration for this year’s GLAAD Media Award in the greater Los Angeles area. Fellow nominees included the Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning drama I Am My Own Wife, by Doug Wright, which ultimately won the award.
The nomination for the GLAAD award was a significant theatrical milestone for Orange County. Additional information regarding the GLAAD nomination is available on our website at

ONLY OC THEATER PARTICIPATING IN SUZI LORI-PARKS’ "365 DAYS/365 PLAYS" NATIONAL THEATER COLLABORATION
The 365 Days/365 Plays project is the most ambitious national theater project ever attempted. Conceived by Suzan Lori-Parks and Bonnie Metzgar, this grass-roots festival seeks to create a new geography for artistic production in the Internet age. The Chance is pleased to have been selected as the only Orange County theatrical participant in this groundbreaking event, which was coordinated locally in L.A. by the Center Theatre Group. The Los Angeles component of the year-long festival kicked off at the Center Theatre Group on November 15, 2006 at the Music Center Plaza. It is a distinct honor to be involved in the largest theater collaboration in U.S. History, linking artists through the rich diversity of the American theatrical landscape in new and surprising ways. The Chance’s performance cycle is Week 7 of the event and the performance will take place on December 26, 2006 at 8:00 p.m. Additional information on this unique theatrical happening is available online at

TCG AND NET MEMBERSHIP
The Chance became the newest member of Theatre Communications Group (TCG) in 2006. It is the mission of this national organization to strengthen, nurture and promote the professional not-for-profit American theatre. Admission into TCG is usually restricted to larger Equity houses. However, a special exception was made for the 49-seat Chance Theater, given our proven high quality of work since 1999. TCG serves over 425 member theatres nationwide, including The Old Globe, La Jolla Playhouse, South Coast Repertory, and Center Theatre Group, home of The Ahmanson and the Mark Taper Forum.
The Network of Ensemble Theaters (NET), officially formed in 1996, is the coalition of North America’s permanent ensemble companies committed to preserving and passing on the legacy of the ensemble theater movement. The companies making up NET include some of the most prestigious and vital ensembles in the country, along with new ensembles that will inherit and reinvent this movement. The Chance Theater is proud to be one of NET’s newest ensemble members. Our Artistic Director, Oanh Nguyen, was honored to be invited to join the NET Nominating Committee. The Ensemble Movement is gaining momentum and visibility, and NET gives voice to “the ensemble way” on a national scale encouraging communication and collaboration, two major core values of The Chance Theater Repertory Company.
