Collective Genius has been able to fuse the role of a Business Analyst with Collective Genius methodologies of User Centered Design to create great client software applications in less time. Collective Genius CIO and Founder Andrew Kass stated “Both User Centered Design and Business Analysis are commonly seen as separate; a process and a role. Our goal has been to take the role of the Business Analyst and equip them with the tools and methodologies of User Centered Design to create great software applications for our clients.”

It is true Business Analysts play an essential liaison role within application design. However it is a new concept and a very probable insight that the Business Analyst (BA) would take the lead in User Centered Design (UCD). Jeff Martin, CEO and Founder of Collective Genius adds, “Clients are quickly starting to see the success firsthand when they witness their software applications being successfully developed on time and under budget, saving the organization IT capital. Business Analysts need to continue being the change agents in incorporating user centered design practices into their methodologies. The result will be an enormous paradigm shift in the development of applications.”

Collective Genius Business Analysts are becoming the key contributors in implementing a UCD framework within the application development process. Their User Centered Design Business Analysts start their processes and end their processes by making the end-user a key stakeholder in the application development process. Starting with requirement generation, User Centered Business Analysts devote a significant amount of their time interviewing end-users for the application needs and requirements. Beyond gathering the essential requirements for the application, the Business Analysts are developing relationships and creating ownership of the application to the end-users. Bill Wilson, Vice President of Client Services at Collective Genius, states “Getting the users involved early on in gathering application requirements is essential. This is very empowering for the end-users to be part of this process. Being a part of the process does not just allow the application to be built right the first time, but it creates a level of ownership for the end-users. This ownership, in turn, results in an amazing impact on the project—specifically in regards to new application adoption throughout the organization.”

Collective Genius has seen users that are part of the process become strong advocates for the new technology because of the role that they played in the development process. The end-user being an advocate is a new change in comparison to most implementations where the end-users push back and resist change. Wilson continues: “It is really fun to see users come forward and request to be part of the process. In years past these were the same people that resisted similar changes. Now they want to lead the charge!”
