Traffic Control Reaches New Heights

Bandon, OR —March 2007— Road contractors are required by law to either take down signs that aren’t showing correct information, or to cover them. Most people don’t realize, however, that the bottom of road signs, such as “Road Work Ahead” or speed limit signs must be at least 7’ above the surface of the road. The Top of those signs is sometimes another 6’ higher. The height makes covering those signs difficult. That is the reasoning behind Sign Socks, Inc. new product, The SIGNSOCK EXTENDER. A SIGNSOCK is a road sign cover patented by Sign Socks, Inc. in 1996. The SIGNSOCK EXTENDER is an attachment contractors can buy to slide over a long stick. When used together, the SIGNSOCK is placed onto the EXTENDER and then raised to put the SIGNSOCK over the road sign.

Todd Petrey, the company’s founder explains, “Over the years, we have heard of some real horror stories. It isn’t uncommon to hear about workers falling off ladders or the hoods of their truck while trying to cover road signs. Since our covers weigh about a pound and the attachment is lightweight, we keep workers safe.”

SIGNSOCK Sign Covers were first invented to replace plastic bags and plywood. Whereas a SIGNSOCK sign cover weighs a pound, a piece of wet plywood can weigh 25 – 30 times more. Todd says, “We have always believed what goes over a sign should be just as safe for passengers and drivers as the sign itself.”

Information on SIGNSOCKS and the SIGNSOCK EXTENDER can be obtained by visiting Sign Socks, Inc. website (www.signsocks.com) or by phone at 888-765-4769. SIGNSOCKS are priced between $25-$40 and an Extender is $10.
