OSU Calendar Model Featured in L.A. Times Magazine Article On March 11

(PRLEAP.COM) LOS ANGELES – Brad Burnett, former student and calendar model at The Ohio State University, is featured in a Sunday, March 11, article in the Los Angeles Times about students who moved from Ohio State to try to “make it” in the entertainment industry.

Burnett, who was Mr. January in the 2003 Campus Men calendar – the last one published by Buckeye alum Sean Ashbrook, dropped out of school just short of graduation to pursue a show business career in the City of Angels.

He is one of three former Buckeyes and Campus Men models who moved to Los Angeles, hoping for “big breaks” as actors. The others, Mike Ball of Dover, Ohio, and Jay Seligman of Solon, Ohio, also appeared in the 2003 calendar. Both are also struggling, but keeping their hopes of stardom high and have landed agents and acting roles.

Ashbrook, their calendar’s publisher, also packed up his business acumen and headed West two years ago. He is marketing his CampusMen.com trademark as an Internet-based modeling/acting recruiting and referral service.

Campus Men has proved a celebrity springboard for several college students who were featured in the beefcake calendars that were published at Ohio State. One of the earliest was Don Handfield, who appeared on the cover of an early calendar, followed the acting bug to L.A. After a few years and a variety of parts, including one in Steven Spielberg’s “Deep Impact,” he moved to screenwriting. He was identified last year as one of 25 New Faces of Independent Film by Filmmaker magazine.

Another early OSU calendar model appeared on the Oprah Winfrey Show. Other former Campus Men have appeared on other TV talk shows and in newspaper articles about modeling and acting.

Ashbrook believes calendar modeling, especially that centered on a campus, can be a career booster for any college student interested in acting and modeling. CampusMen.com currently offers advice to student-entrepreneurs who want to organize a Campus Men or Campus Women-type calendar at their universities.
