Seattle, WA, [March 2007] – The A.K. Rice Institute for the Study of Social Systems today announced it is accepting applications for participation in its premier leadership training event, the annual Leadership Institute.

While many workshops provide training in the tools or mechanics of leadership, the A.K. Rice approach (also referred to as the Tavistock method) focuses on what drives you emotionally and how you can develop the personal qualities that will enable you to cope with, and even thrive in, the complex challenges that leadership presents. This six-day residential program enables you to understand the interpersonal and intergroup dynamics driving conflict and collaboration in the workplace, to better develop your leadership capabilities.

“We have already accepted a number of outstanding candidates from all walks of life who will come to Lake Arrowhead to learn about and experience leadership in new ways,” said Gordon Strauss, M.D., director of the 5-day program. “Business people, nonprofit executives, and health care workers can all benefit from the unique lessons of group experience that the theory and events supported by the A.K. Rice Institute can provide.”

“These conferences offer a solid background to learn how to apply group dynamics concepts to the real world, “said Michel Deschapelles, a former conference participant who is director of sales at Lucent Technologies. “Much of my success is due to my being able to see more clearly what is going on in the group… it is the difference between success and failure.”

“This model provides a leader with the vision and the courage to contain complexity without losing one’s focus on humanity,” said Beverley Malone, General Secretary of the Royal College of Nursing, U.K. and a former conference participant.
