(PRLEAP.COM) LOS ANGELES – CoryLavel, an internationally recognized vocalist and winner of the 2005 Los Angeles Music Awards “Best R&B Album,” is starting a foundation aimed at providing inner-city youths with alternatives to gang violence and illegal drug use that thwart the development of many young people today.
A news conference held on Saturday, Oct. 28,2006 detailed the activities of the foundation, and its stance on a number of issues facing today’s youth. The CoryLavel Foundation was founded in 2005 the wake of the death of the singer’s cousin Fred Rico Berry, and is charged with providing urban youth with healthy activities that serve as a anti-gang deterrent and help combat the obesity epidemic confronting today’s youth.
The foundation’s board also advocate’s the return of the parent’s right of non-abusive corporal punishment. CoryLavel believes strongly that he would not be where he is today if it weren’t for the loving, non-abusive physical discipline administered by his parents.Recent news reports show that CoryLavel is not alone: A recent USA Today report showed that of 20 “Fortune 500” CEOs interviewed in a recent story, all received some form of corporal punishment.Though they did not say if corporal punishment was linked to their success, it did reinforce lessons that stayed with them for life.
