Seoul, Korea – March 2007 – Sun Wenjie, senior attorney of the firm Lehman, Lee & Xu made a presentation to around one hundred law students, lawyers and professors at the 1st Social Infrastructure Development Law Symposium, organized by Konkuk University. Other presenters included law professors from Konkuk University, Waseda University, Beijing Union University, and attorneys from law firms in China, Korea and Japan. Mr. Sun discussed Foreign Real Estate Investment in China - Law & Policies.

“There has been and continues to be a historical evolution of urban lands since the establishment of the People's Republic of China, from private ownership to nationalization and then to privatization of land use rights. The current 'cool-down' policy in China will impact private speculation by foreigners to a certain extent but will not affect foreign real estate investments through an FIE (foreign invested enterprise). The Property Law of the PRC was just passed by the National People's Congress, and will be a milestone in the Chinese legal system because it is the first time that the state recognizes equivalent protections between private property and state owned property,” commented Sun Wenjie.
