New Parent Info Site and Blog on Utah’s New School Voucher Program

(PRLEAP.COM) Susan Morris, director of American Heritage School of Spanish Fork, announced today that a new website is now available to help answer parent’s most pressing questions on Utah’s new private school voucher program. The new site can be found at www.UtahVouchers.com and carries the tagline, “Your Money, Your Child, Your Choice.”

On February 12, 2007, Utah Governor Jon Huntsman signed into law the Parents for Choice in Education Act. The new law, which provides a $500 to $3000 annual per child voucher to qualifying families, has created a significant number of questions for parents.

Morris states, “The more people I talk to about this critical issue, the more I realize how much mis-information is out there. Most parents simply do not understand all the details on this new law. In fact, some even have an idea that the private school vouchers will harm the public school system. In fact, it is written in such a way that it actually helps public schools.”

Morris continues, “www.UtahVouchers.com is designed to answer parent’s questions and give clear insights into how they qualify, how much they will receive, and when they can apply for the program. I think it will be a great resource for parents everywhere in Utah.”

The website gives clear, direct answers to questions such as:

• What is the voucher program? I’ve heard about this in the news, but I’m still not clear on what it is.
• How much money can I get? I’ve seen a lot of different numbers. What’s the real story?
• Does my family even qualify? I heard only low income families qualify - is this true?
• What schools are participating? How many private schools are going to accept the vouchers?
• Does this hurt public schools? I’ve heard this is going to really hurt the quality of public schools.
• What is the private school difference? Public, charter, or private school - what is the difference anyway?

Additionally, the new website contains a blog where parents can interact, ask questions, and leave comments. The blog can be accessed directly at www.UtahVouchers.com/blog.

Morris concludes, “More than anything, this new voucher program is about giving parents the freedom to make different choices. Each parent understands their child’s unique gifts and talents. They have the right to decide what type of education is best for their child. Yet, far too often, I have parents calling our school saying, ‘This would be perfect for my child, I just can’t afford it right now.’ The voucher empowers parents like these to do what’s best for their child.”
