Beach, CA March 27, 2007 — Eating Disorders are complex to treat and require a variety of treatment options and levels of care. The Shoreline Center for Eating Disorder Treatment announces the opening of Satori House, a Supportive Living Home for those in recovery from Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia Nervosa. It will provide semi-structured living for those transitioning down from inpatient care, or for those that need more support than traditional outpatient treatment provides. The facility is now open and fully staffed with qualified, knowledgeable professionals focused on eating disorder recovery. It is an additional component of Shoreline Center’s programs, which includes a 13 hour/week Intensive Outpatient Program, Individual Outpatient Therapy as well as Nutrition Counseling. The addition of the new Satori House Residential Facility allows for a full range of treatment options and the continuum of care needed to help individuals prevent relapse, an overwhelming problem in eating disorder treatment.

The Satori House Extended Care Residence includes 24 hour supervision, meal planning, supportive community meals as well as recreational outings and life skills workshops. In addition, the friendly staff encourages nurturing activities such as gardening, yoga and expressive activities such as art and music, all of which are offered on site. The home provides individuals a safe and healing environment in which to stay while attending the Eating Disorder Intensive Outpatient Program (EDIOP) or if clients are obtaining treatment elsewhere in the community. It is located in a serene, upscale neighborhood, close to Cal State Long Beach with easy access to shopping, public transportation and the beach.

Rachel Levi, LMFT, CEDS, Founder and Clinical Director said “Opening a new, residential extended care facility is critical to providing ongoing, supportive care for patients on the recovery path. It provides a semi-structured environment to practice their newly learned living skills. We are thrilled to be able to move forward with this exciting step”.

The Shoreline Center for Eating Disorder Treatment has operated since 1995 helping individuals achieve recovery from eating and body image problems, including anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and binge eating. Personalized, compassionate and integrated treatment from a multidisciplinary staff of eating disorder specialists, including therapists, dietitians and physicians has proven to be the optimal path to recovery.

The Shoreline Center’s mission is to help individuals find that place deep inside that wishes to break free from rules and obsessions, and to live a happy, healthy and spontaneous life. “ We help integrate life and recovery.”
