Former Google Answers Researchers Do It All — From Alligator Clips to Zebra Guidewire

Cyberspace — When medical editor Stacy Bing needed a list of medical terms named after animals, she already knew a few. Butterfly rash, alligator clips, rhesus factor and bulldog clamps were on her list, along with a dozen or so others. But she needed a list of at least a hundred.

Unable to complete it herself, she turned to paid research site uclue.com where researcher David Sarokin, with the assistance of other Uclue researchers, came up with the goods. Uclue researchers supplied almost 200 terms, including crow's feet, elephantitis, goose bumps, CAT scan and mad cow disease, along with more esoteric entries, like pike-jawed forceps, and swan-neck deformity.

The research cost Ms. Bing $25, to which she added a $10 tip.

"I wasn't even sure this would be doable on the internet," she said, "but to my delight and amazement, Uclue indeed pulled it off. I'm completely impressed."

Uclue researcher Sarokin added, "It was a team effort, but this has to be a world's record. Where else but Uclue could you find a list of a few hundred animal-related medical terms?"

Other questions tackled in Uclue's first month online include personal relationships, taxes, lead paint removal, global warming, health research, language usage, computer support, and how to amuse a cat.

Uclue's founder, 48-year-old Roger Browne of England, said the service welcomes even the most esoteric questions. "The answers are usually out there," he said, "and it's satisfying for the customer and for the researcher when we find them."

Uclue's 32 researchers hail from the US, UK, Australia, Canada and several other countries in Europe, South America and Asia, providing an international scope and research capablilities in English, German and Spanish. The researchers — all formerly with Google Answers prior to its closure last year — were chosen for their communication skills and research ability, and all have over four years' experience as professional researchers. Uclue handles a wide variety of business, legal, health, academic and personal research.
