The New Statesman, Britain’s leading political magazine, in association with Atos Origin, the leading IT services company, announces the nomination of Pain Talk (www.pain-talk.org.uk) in their New Media Awards in the category of Information and Openness.

This award will go to the individual or organisation that best uses new media technology to provide an alternative, informative voice enhancing democratic debate. The key themes of this year’s awards are "accessibility, usability and interactivity".

The awards celebrate those who use new media for the benefit of others, whether in their community or in society at large. Since 1998, these awards have promoted projects that embrace new technology, fresh thinking and creative management in the UK.

Pain Talk is the national discussion forum and community for UK Healthcare Professionals with an interest in acute, chronic, or palliative, Pain Management. It is run by health care workers, on a 'not-for-profit' basis, and provides an on-line venue where individuals can share their experiences, ask questions, request help, publicise events, etc.

Pain Talk's work has been highlighted as a prime example of a successful on-line specialist community by a number of respected sources (including: The Journal of Visual Communication in Medicine, Oxford University, and the Royal College of Nursing)
