The Trip into Milky Way Takes a Trip to the LA Times Festival of Books

LOS ANGELES, CA, April 2007- Laguna Beach author, Gary Paul Corcoran, and his highly anticipated novel, The Trip into Milky Way will be featured at the LA Times Festival of Books, April 28-29, Booth #610, Section F. This newly published book is a unique bit of American fiction, set against the fading idealism of the sixties, with an unmistakable West Coast feel to it.

Mr. Corcoran grew up in Southern California, and his novel derives much of its inspiration from his experiences there, especially from those turbulent days at the end of the 1960s. Transplanted from New England and the Courier & Ives existence of his youth, into a land of russet colored hills splashed with eucalyptus trees and orange groves, Mr. Corcoran, in a recent interview on PageOneLit.Com., defined his generation as those "old enough to remember vividly the day President Kennedy was shot, but still young enough to scream when the Beatles appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show three months later."

From those early days of the Beatles and Norwegian Wood, to Jefferson Airplane and Monterey Pop, psychedelics and the summer of love, to the angst of student protests and draft notices being burned in the streets, Mr. Corcoran captures the whole wild caravan adventure of a generation searching for its place in the sun, all within the framework of an epic tale and gripping narrative, told by a young draft dodger in search of love, redemption and enlightenment.

The Trip into Milky Way is an odyssey from the riotous streets of America to the deserted beaches of Hawaii to the depths of despair in a Mexican prison. There are all the passions a generation had known as it came of age in the sixties, all the wild, crazy hopes and dreams of that tumultuous era, the narrative itself a reflection of the very best and the very worst of an idealistic generation that once had hoped to transform the world.
