Microsoft preinstalls 13 of the usual run of the mill Gadgets right within Vista, including Calendar, Clock, Contacts, CPU Meter, Currency, Feed Headlines, Notes, Picture Puzzle, Slide Show, Stocks, and Weather. You’ll find a wide variety of Gadgets, including a dictionary and eBay has a Gadget for watching auction bid and watching lists. Gadgets can be very convenient indeed. But for the Internet Marketer and hobbyist, there is a need for a more personalized and customized Gadget.

This is how gadgets arrive

Vista has what is known as a sidebar which is installed and ON by default. This sidebar comes empty. At the top of the sidebar is a link that opens the sidebar Gallery and displays the 13 preinstalled Gadgets. Online merchants with shopping sites can embed their link in a gadget that takes the user to the shopping Website when clicked on. Affiliates can embed the sponsor code within a Gadget to make sure they get paid their commission when a user clicks on the gadget and purchases the product.

Some Gadget applications are even taking advantage of the Sidebar to provide easily accessible information or a small input area. For example, Gadgets can enable professionals such as attorneys or consultants who bill their time to record their stop and start times. A flight gadget may be used for finding and booking flights. Real Estate agents can have a Gadget designed to pull results from mls feed based on their criteria.
