Drinkon, the UK’s number one specialist drinks retailer, has become the first online off licence in the country to use RSS feeds to communicate with customers.

RSS feeds (Really Simple Syndication) allow anyone who signs up the chance to hear about the latest new products and offers without ever having to visit the website. Customers will get real time updates on their favourite spirits, liqueurs and wines on their computer desktop by using a newsreader, such as Google Reader or My Yahoo.

Lucy Mitchell, founder of Drinkon, says “This new feature is an excellent way to communicate with our customers. We frequently have promotions that sell out very quickly and this gives subscribers a chance to find out about them as they are posted. There are some very interesting promotions and competitions coming up for summer and RSS subscribers will be the first in the know.”

The use of RSS feeds to market products and communicate with customers has really taken off in the States, however UK retailers have been slower to use this effective tool. Drinkon has embraced the concept, anticipating that their Internet savvy customers will want something more than weekly email newsletters. Lucy Mitchell says, “We have a strong and loyal customer base, interested in hearing about new drinks and our clients want us to actively communicate with them. RSS feeds effectively give us the ability to offer better customer service.”

In addition to the RSS feeds, Drinkon have also enhanced their website to include product videos so that customers can view demonstrations on cocktail making and browse short films on their favourite drinks.
