DATELINE: IRVINE, CA… Boot Camp for New Dads, a non-profit orientation program for fathers-to-be, operating in more than 260 hospitals, clinics, schools and churches around the country, has recently been awarded Irvine Health Foundation’s 20/20 Vision community grant.

In their efforts to further improve the health of Orange Country families through their fatherhood initiative, Boot Camp for New Dads was awarded an unrestricted grant from the Irvine Health Foundation. The grant will be used for developing Boot Camp for New Dads educational materials and tools.

“Irvine Health Foundation recognized the real value of providing information for new fathers and we are very grateful to receive their 20/20 Vision grant,” said Greg Bishop, founder and Head Coach of Boot Camp for New Dads.

Bishop explained, “One of the best things that dads can do is to realize just how important their role is in their child’s life and that it expands far beyond being a good provider. Making fatherhood an adventure with our children is one of the best things we can do as dads.”

Founded in 1985, the Irvine Health Foundation is a non-profit grant making foundation with the primary goal of improving the health of the community. The Irvine Health Foundation is located at 18301 Von Karman Avenue in Irvine, CA. For more information, contact (949) 253-2959 or visit the website at www.ihf.org.

Boot Camp for New Dads
Celebrating their 16th year, Boot Camp for New Dads’ mission is to help new dads face both the challenges and opportunities of fatherhood through workshops which provide them with “hands on” education in the care of their babies. Men attend the class when they are expecting their first baby, and are joined in the workshop by “veterans” who had previously attended and have returned with their two to four-month-old baby in tow. They are able to give the dads-to-be a realistic idea of what to do and what to expect when their first baby comes. Research from Princeton University has shown that “birth is a magical moment” and men are most receptive to information on establishing good habits as dads in the months surrounding the birth of their babies.

Boot Camp for New Dads is nationally acclaimed as the “Best Practice” for preparing men to be fathers and was recently named a U.S. Navy Model Program.

With more than 4.1 million births last year alone (National Center for Health Statistics), and approximately 1.5 million men becoming new dads every year, it’s more important than ever for fathers to realize that being a “good provider” is only part of the very central role they have in their children’s lives.

Bishop continued, “These guys are inspiring and should make all men proud, because once they understand how much they are needed, they deliver the goods.”
