Home Solar Photovoltaics To Grow Five-Fold by 2011

(PRLEAP.COM) Washington, DC — Residential use of solar photovoltaic (PV) cells to generate electricity will grow five-fold between 2006 and 2011, according to new data from XooxleAnswers, a professional research service in Washington DC.

"The growth is very rapid," said XooxleAnswers founder, David Sarokin. "Home installations of PV cells doubled between 2004 and 2006, and is expected to double once again in 2007."

"Spending is growing rapidly as well," added Sarokin. "Spending on residential PV cells was $61.5 million in 2006. That is projected to increase to a short term maximum of $410 million in 2010".

The XooxleAnswers research also notes that overall power capacity of home PV units will increase as well; a typical home installation of 2 kW in 2006 will increase to 2.5 kW by 2010.

"The future for photovoltaics is looking — I can’t help myself — sunny over the short term," said Sarokin.

The XooxleAnswers research on "The Growth of Photovoltaic Solar Energy for Home Use" is available at the company’s website:

The research is based on unpublished data from the US Department of Energy (DOE), and includes information on home and commercial use of photovoltaics, as well as fuel cells, and other alternative and conventional energy sources.
