Risk And Safety Management Alert System (RASMAS) to help Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center Stay at the Forefront of Patient Safety. Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) is the latest prominent health organization to utilize the Risk and Safety Management Alert System (RASMAS) service to improve its product recall management processes.

RASMAS is a web-based service that automates the distribution, receipt, and tracking of healthcare product alerts and recalls. RASMAS improves patient safety by streamlining the way hospitals receive and respond to the thousands of product alerts and safety notices issued each year. Subscribers report that using RASMAS reduces alert processing time by 80% and dramatically decreases the number of days from notification to removal of products from use.

In 2004, BIDMC passed its Joint Commission for Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) and was awarded the Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval™. They also received a perfect score on the seven National Patient Safety Goals.

"Patient safety is extremely important to us," said Kathleen Murray, Director of Process Improvement, and Health Care Quality. "RASMAS' tracking and audit tools will support our organization-wide recall notification process and strengthen the network of internal communication ensuring that all departments and patients impacted are provided timely notification and that necessary follow-up occurs. Benefits from the incoming notifications and management tools such as the Real-time Status Reporting, Delay Notice Generation, Audit and Process Improvement Reports support the work toward the medical center’s goal to promote continuous excellence in clinical quality, patient safety and compliance with JCAHO and other regulatory agency standards."
