Treble Heart Books will launch “Prodigal Child” by the Kuala Lumpur author Shoba Mano, at the 2005 New York BookExpo, held from June 1st to 6th at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. Shoba Mano will fly from Malaysia to attend the gala BookExpo for publishers and authors from around the world.

Reviewer for Rolling Seas Reviews, Dakota Wind, recently said of the Asian romance believed to be the first Asian romance ever to be released in America, “Shoba Mano narrates, “Whenever asked about the infamous Saigon in Europe, Kim would only shrug and say, she was born just after the American GI’s left the country.” This story reveals the living casualties left behind after the Vietnam war.”

“Prodigal Child” is more than just a romance novel. Being raised with Asian cultures and traditions, the author Shoba Mano tells the story of the socialite daughter Judge and Mrs. Cao, and the Ameriasian ‘Bui Doi’ Bryan Nguyen, who is left orphaned when his American GI father returns to the USA, and his Asian mother deserted him as one of the ‘Children of the dust’ on Hanoi streets.

With romance novels commanding 51% of the fiction marketplace, Shoba Mano’s Asian romance, “Prodigal Child” is a breath of fresh air for romance storytelling. The Asian author delivers insight into the cultures, traditions, and politics of a country where American/Asian children were branded as ‘Children of the Dust’.

Dakota Wind went on to review, “From a rat-infested jail in Hanoi, Chauffeur Bryan Nguyen rescues outspoken Cao Kim Lye, and takes her to live under the shop roof of Mr. & Mrs. Lu in the dust and chaos of Hanoi streets. Miss Cao’s world is not only shattered by the shock murder of her parents, but she must learn to adjust to a lifestyle that is alien to her.”

Shoba Mano is sure to open the eyes of many readers to Asian culture and traditions.” The story behind “Prodigal Child” is ‘Reality’ for children of the city once known as, Saigon.
