Spain Select boosts offering of rental apartments in Madrid to meet surging demand

Madrid, Spain. An ebullient market for quality rental apartments in Madrid city centre has led Spain Select to double its inventory of Madrid properties to fifteen.

Madrid’s strong economy and events such as the Olympic bid and last year’s royal wedding have combined to boost visitor numbers and the demand for short let accommodation.

There will shortly be 15 Madrid rental properties available on Spain Select’s website (http://www.spain-select.com/prov.asp?prov=15). By 2006 the Spanish holiday property specialist expects to offer more than 25 hand-picked apartments in Madrid.

Spain Select’s Sandra Cabello states, “As an alternative to hotels, apartments make sense for tourists and business travellers both in terms of experiencing the city and value for money, as long as the quality is high.”

She adds, “In the past, apartments in Madrid have been less popular than in, say, Barcelona, where there are fewer hotel beds. Now, we receive many enquiries customers who have already rented elsewhere and know how easy it is, or from returning customers who have rented villas from us and are interested in what else we offer.”

Her colleague, Daniel Hermoso, believes various factors make demand robust.

“The low cost airlines have certainly made Madrid more accessible. On top of that, Madrid has a much higher profile now than two years ago. The royal wedding and the Olympic bid help on that front, but also the city has a very dynamic economy and we’ve seen a big increase in business travellers.”

Hermoso expects demand to increase but finds it difficult to predict by how much. He says, “There is clearly a trend toward apartment rentals in Madrid, but until we see the outcome of the Olympic bid we are not going to have a clear idea. We, of course, are backing Madrid’s bid.”
