A new theory of hypnosis ("A Theory of Hypnosis Based on Principles of Conditioning and Inhibition" by Alfred A. Barrios, Ph.D.) for the first time clearly explains why and how hypnosis is such a potentially powerful therapeutic tool. The theory shows that the main reason for its great value is that hypnosis places the mind in a highly focused state, one that like a laser beam can more readily cut through the barriers of any previous negative programming to produce positive change. Man's greatest problem is that it is often so hard to change. We know a lot about programming and reprogramming the average computer but when it comes to the main computer - the brain we are still in the dark. Hypnosis, when used correctly, is the answer to this problem and the theory shows the why and the how.
The theory also points out that hypnosis is a much more common-occurring phenomenon than previously thought. If presented properly, just about anyone can be deeply hypnotized. And in fact hypnosis occurs more often than people realize. If you have ever been enthralled by a good salesman or politician; spellbound by a rousing religious sermon; or mesmerized by a renowned doctor of medicine; you have experienced hypnosis.
The theory presented ties hypnosis down to known laws of behavior and physiology and thus helps one to make the most of its vast potential for helping people achieve a state of greater health, happiness and fulfillment.
In addition to being in the Fall 2001 issue of Contemporary Hypnosis (the journal of the British society of Experimental and Clinical Hypnosis) the theory can also be found at the author's website: www.stresscards.com in the Dr. Barrios Articles section.
