• Fun – Be silly. Family life isn’t supposed to be a hardship. Allow for fun in life.
• Affection – Parents should develop a bedtime routine of telling their child “I love you.”
• Communicate – Parents should give their undivided attention when talking to their children: no reading, no working and no television.
• Encourage – Acknowledge when children have done something right, “Thanks for following through on your chores” or “You did a nice job.”
• Time – Make family time an appointment in weekly schedules. Plan for family in daily agendas.
• Structure – Regardless of what children say they want rules. Families should discuss rules and expectations.
