Show Me the Way Foundation Partners with Center for Black Women Wellness, Inc. to Launch Abstinence Program for Teen Girls

(PRLEAP.COM) Atlanta, GA – May 2007 – Show Me the Way Foundation (SMTWF), a non-profit organization who provides mentoring programs and positive group activities for youth negatively affected by and infected with HIV/AIDS and other terminal diseases is excited to announce their partnership with the Center for Black Women Wellness, Inc. (CBWW) to provide their first abstinence program SHE (Show Me the Way How through Education) to the participants of the Summer Youth Leadership Training Program (SYLTP) at the Dunbar Teen Center, June 11 – July 20, 2007. SHE will educate young girls between the ages of 10 and 15 about the importance of abstinence.

Tashawnya Menefee, Founder of SMTWF stated, “We will use an 8-week curriculum called Choosing the Best Life. The curriculum will lead to natural discussions about sex and the consequences. Participants in the SYLTP will have opportunities to see how: peers view sex; how best to deal with pressures about sex; and examine the physical and emotional consequences as a result of pre-marital sex. Once the participants complete the program, they will become a member of the teen group SHE, Girl: a group of teen girls who are committed to abstinence until marriage.”

SYLTP is a summer program offered to approximately 35 youth between the ages of 10 and 15. The program address issues of teen pregnancy and the spread of sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV. Participants are provided information about sex and sexuality; human growth and development; and other skills to help them reach their full potential.
