Featured in the May 2007 issue of Philadelphia Magazine as one of the 53 innovative pain treatments from the Philadelphia’s top doctors, those with acute or chronic nerve related muscle aches and pains due to work or sports injuries, whiplash of the spine or aging can now be helped with the launch of Electrical Twitch Obtaining Intramuscular Stimulation (eToims). The eToims Twitch Method provides very brief surface electrical stimulation to successive trigger points causing muscles to twitch. That characteristic twitch is followed by muscle relaxation, i.e. cessation of spasm, with improved blood flow, eliminating or decreasing pain, which can be long-lasting.
Muscle shortening due to nerve irritation causes entrapment of tiny nerves and blood vessels within the muscle. Release of muscle spasm is essential to remove pain and encourage nerve recovery.
Sessions vary in length and frequency depending on the patient’s condition. Minor and acute pain is often treated in one session, while chronic pain may require weekly visits to maintain and enhance quality-of-life provided by the treatments.
Dr. Jennifer Chu, a professor in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Pennsylvania Medical School whose many peer-reviewed publications appear in national and international medical journals, says “eToims is not a pain suppressant. It actually takes out pain without drugs or invasive methods and should be used immediately rather than later when all other procedures have failed”.
eToims Twitch Method can replace more invasive procedures, requires no recovery time, and is minimally uncomfortable. The degree of discomfort depends on the degree of severity of the patient’s condition.
eToims Medical Technology LLC will seek FDA approval to market its proprietary medical devices.
