(PRLEAP.COM) Herndon, VA.: The Kanbay Research Institute (KRI), an independent operating unit of Capgemini, updated its coverage on Borders (BGP) as part of their competitive ratings of the Retail industry. The KRI standardized system measures how well a company is building durable advantage and provides overall and detailed ratings across nine competitive moats by analyzing consumer responses. In 2005 Borders scored a summary moat rating of 3M. 2006 ratings show that Borders’ highest rating is a 2M in the channel lock out moat. A 5M is the most competitive rating possible.

Borders competes primarily on product selection and a distinctive store atmosphere, but data suggest the company’s strategy is not resonating with consumers.
