New York/Stuttgart - Thieme Publishers is pleased to announce the release of “Casting Type Calcifications: Sign of a Subtype with Deceptive Features” which is the second volume in the series, “Breast Cancer - Early Detection with Mammography” by László Tabár, M.D., Tibor Tot, M.D., and Peter B. Dean, M.D. This new volume focuses on a deviant type of cancer that has not received sufficient attention from the medical community. Dr. Tabár, a world-renowned radiologist, shares his extensive knowledge of mammography images to describe and explain the unusual features of this deviant breast cancer.

Mammography, as a screening examination, brings to light a new spectrum of breast cancers dominated by preclinical tumors revealed by high-quality mammography screening. The authors present a subtype of highly malignant breast cancer that is easily recognizable from its mammographic and histologic appearance. In the preface Dr. Tabár, Dr. Tot, and Dr. Peter B. Dean write, “Failure to recognize and single out this subtype, as well as separate it >from the other truly early cases, has led to under treatment of some women and over treatment of many women with mammographically detected breast cancer.”

The book contains numerous special features. Highlights include nearly 1,000 illustrations; thick-section pathologic specimens that help the reader comprehend why mammograms look the way they do; and a selection of full-color pathology images, presented in 3-D with a special viewing lens, that allows the reader to visualize the spatial orientation of breast cancer relative to normal breast structures.

“Casting Type Calcifications: Sign of a Subtype with Deceptive Features” is for physicians who understand that greater knowledge of the various types of breast cancer will lead to more individualized diagnosis and therapy that will ultimately benefit patients and save lives.
