HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS CONNECT
(
PRLEAP.COM) San Francisco, CA (June 2007) – The Art Institute of California – San Francisco and San Francisco Project Homeless Connect are partnering for the annual Summer Studio held at The Art Institute of California – San Francisco. During this week long summer workshop, students enrolled in the Advertising and Graphic Design workshops will conceptualize and design pro-bono collateral materials to be used to help promote Project Homeless Connect’s mission, goals, and bi-monthly activities.
“We are genuinely excited about this opportunity to work with a group that is dedicated to helping the homeless population in our community. This is a wonderful chance for our Advertising and Graphic Design Summer Studio participants to create and produce materials for a real world client while giving back to our community,” said James Campbell, President of The Art Institute of California – San Francisco. “It is a priority at The Art Institute of California – San Francisco to engage our students in career-oriented opportunities that not only benefit their future careers, but also get them thinking about social issues that affect our daily lives outside of the classroom,” said Campbell. “This project with Project Homeless Connect allows us to extend this notion to students at the high school level.”
Project Homeless Connect representatives will venture into the Advertising and Graphic Design workshops to discuss homelessness from an educational perspective and then provide project guidance to Summer Studio participants. The project will culminate with a formal presentation of the materials to Project Homeless Connect during the Summer Studio Parent and Portfolio Reception held on Friday, June 22 in the Gallery of The Art Institute of California – San Francisco.

Project Homeless Connect, held every other month, makes a real difference in the lives of the City’s homeless by bringing together almost 250 non-profit agencies, private businesses and volunteers to assist San Franciscans in need. Since the program’s inception in October 2004 as a joint effort of San Francisco’s health care, housing and human service systems, Project Homeless Connect has been supported by over 15,000 volunteers, individuals and companies giving their time, cash, clothing, food and essential services. To date, this program has provided services to thousands of the City’s most economically disadvantaged men, women and children with basic human needs and housing. This unprecedented approach to helping the homeless has evolved into a model program for more than 68 other municipalities nationwide. Project Homeless Connect is a key component of Mayor Newsom’s 10-year plan to abolish homelessness in San Francisco.
