U.S. Table Tennis Open in Vegas - Seniors Player, Steve Federico, Marks Record Year!

(PRLEAP.COM) The U.S. Table Tennis Open will be held in July 2007 in Las Vegas. Steve Federico is entered to play along with the top pros from throughout the world. Steve Federico is a legend for how he hits small balls - table tennis. The owner of South Florida’s oldest tennis specialty store, Biscayne Tennis in North Miami, is also the only table tennis player in the country to this year mark a milestone: the only person ranked a Top 20 table tennis player for 40 years. Currently, Steve is the number 1 ranked men’s player in Florida’s senior’s division. From 1960-2000 he consistently ranked in the Top 15. No other player has lasted so long at the top of this game of fast decisions and faster reflexes.

Steve says that the reason for his long time success in the game is three-fold: he started young, has an innate knack for the sport; and has suffered fewer injuries than many others in the game. Oh, the injuries weren’t necessarily due to playing the sport, but it sidelined his competition none-the-less.

Table tennis is a sport that has a very low injury rate for the intensity of play. It is an excellent cardiovascular workout. And, says Steve, "It takes fast reflexes and great strategy to keep a player ranked in the Top 20 for 40 years." Steve also takes that competitive knowledge to work in his store, where celebrity shoppers are often seen browsing the racks and trying on sneakers and experiencing top service from a top pro. Steve can analyze a tennis game as well as a ping-pong game and is often asked by tennis pros to comment on the abilities of athletes that compete at the Erickson, Wimbeldon, etc.

Biscayne Tennis is a great place to celebrity watch. Regular current and previous Biscayne Tennis customers include a who’s-who of names such as Sting; Don Johnson; Senator Howard Baker; Gloria Estefan; Barry Gibb; Bert Parks; guitar legend Yngvie Malmstein; local newcasters Dwight Lauderdale, Carmel Cafiero, and Michael Putney; Chevy Chase; Chargers General Manager Bobby Beatherd, and many others, along with international customers that wait all year to visit the store to load up on products not readily available in their own backyards.
