Baby Boomer Author is Featured in NY Times Article

(PRLEAP.COM) Baby Boomer Author Beverly Mahone describes herself as “The New Face of Menopause” and that face, along with her message, is getting more and more recognition around the country. She is featured in the Thursday edition of the New York Times in a story about menopause. “Finding me was like finding a needle in a haystack because there are so many women out here who have written books on the subject but I’m just glad my name came across the right eyes,” says Mahone.

In her self-published best-selling book, Whatever! A Baby Boomer’s Journey Into Middle Age, Mahone takes a humorous approach to dealing with hot flashes and other menopausal symptoms. With great candor and wit, she discusses her own battles with weight gain, divorce and dating again as a single parent; the complex dynamics of being an "older worker" in a youth obsessed society. "I found myself having my biggest hot flashes while at work. The newsroom can be a very stressful place. I began journaling my experiences—-all of them—and eventually realized that I had something to share with others."

The self-proclaimed baby boomer diva, who turns 50-years-old in two weeks, says she is sick and tired of reading and hearing about the misery associated with the “change.” She is also concerned with the fact that some women, especially African-American women, seem to have a hard time talking about their feelings. “Menopause is an equal opportunity annoyer. It’s just another part of a woman’s journey in life. “We should embrace it and not fear it,” she adds.

Renowned author, poet, and professor, Nikki Giovanni reviewed Ms. Mahone’s original manuscript and endorsed the book calling it “…the right story at the right time.”

The baby boomer author, who appeared as a baby boomer expert on MSNBC-TV, smiles and says, “When people look at me, they are very surprised to learn my age and then to discover I’m in menopause. Yes, the look may have changed but the symptoms remain the same!”
