Hogan Assessment Systems' President Named Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Finalist

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Hogan Assessment Systems (HAS), the leader in comprehensive assessments for employee selection and development, today announced that its president and founder, Dr. Robert Hogan, was named a finalist for the 2005 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award. The award honors those who make outstanding contributions to entrepreneurial spirit or help entrepreneurs become successful through business, economic or academic means. Dr. Hogan is a finalist in the Southwest Region. His firm is headquartered in Tulsa, Okla., with offices there and in Jacksonville, Fla.

“We are honored that our company’s founder has been named a finalist for the prestigious Entrepreneur of the Year award,” said Dr. Rodney Warrenfeltz, managing partner for Hogan Assessment Systems. “All of us at HAS are pleased Dr. Hogan received this much deserved recognition for an individual who is truly a pioneer in the personality assessment field.”

Now in its 19th year, the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year program continues the tradition of recognizing entrepreneurial excellence. Hogan is one of 22 finalists in the Southwest Region and will learn on June 18 if he will be named a regional winner. If selected, Hogan will then vie for the national award, to be presented at a black-tie gala in Palm Springs in November.

“As my wife Joyce and I built this company,” Dr. Hogan said, “our goal has always been to help people succeed — employee and employer alike. That makes this recognition of our business applications all the better.”

About the Finalist
Robert Hogan took the hard path to success. An academic interested in personality psychology, he bucked the establishment in the ’70s by focusing on competence and effectiveness rather than psychiatric problems. Dr. Hogan argued that successful people change the world and that their personalities predict their success.

Over time, his research validated his judgment. He then applied it to business and proved its merit by creating assessments to help select employees who will succeed without respect to race, gender or ethnicity. Hogan Assessment Systems (HAS) started as a consultancy at a time when enforcement of the Civil Rights Act meant American business needed unbiased hiring procedures. Moving forward, HAS became a leading authority on employee selection and development because of its unique ability to validate, quantify and customize impartial testing for job titles across a wide range of businesses and government entities.

An early adaptor of computerized testing, Dr. Hogan recognized the need to put his assessments on the Internet and also saw that the company required marketing strength to grow. He hired strong leaders in those areas so he could continue with research that is leading to new products and services.

The Internet allowed the company to grow worldwide; and in the last five years, the HAS client base climbed 33 percent, daily testing grew 500 percent, and revenue increased nearly 800 percent.
