Missouri Sisters Team-Up with “Things I Wonder”
(PRLEAP.COM) New author, Jennifer Lynne Smith, and her sister, Angela M. Gray, a talented illustrator, both from Poplar Bluff, MI joined forces to write and illustrate Things I Wonder published by His Work Christian Publishing in Ketchikan, Alaska in May, 2007.
“Normally we prefer to match illustrators to authors,” said Publisher Angela Perez of His Work Christian Publishing, “But in this case, the illustrations sold the book!”
Things I Wonder is a delightful children’s book about a boy who wonders what life would be like if the sky was made of cotton candy, the rivers were ice cream, as well as what life would be like without his eyes, ears, wiggling toes, and more.
“What a way to capture how we look at life…,” said Antonio Frontera, chef and co-author of Chicken Soup for the Soul-Kids in the Kitchen, “The sister team’s writing and illustrations will bring you to a new level of imagination and reality. The flawless, artfully illustrations that Angela creates are clear and life-like. The writing that Jennifer has poured out onto the pages are from God and are so powerful. I have read this book to many people of all ages and have had such a fun response and kind words about it. The sister team makes us thank God for all the little things in our life that we take for granted everyday. It is a keeper. I can relate to this book as I look at the world in the eyes of the young boy. In my eyes the world is made up of all the great things that we love. If only the world was like food?”
Terry L. Pfleghaar, Librarian at the Elk River Public Library in Elk River, MN also gave the book a positive review, “The charming book, Things I Wonder, will be a true delight for children and their parents. Through her fluid phrases, author Jennifer Lynne Smith validates a child’s sense of fun and whimsy, addresses genuine childhood concerns, and then poignantly asserts God’s goodness. Illustrator Angela M. Gray renders vibrant illustrations that one could stare at endlessly, sparkling with amusing surprises, and a bunny that children will love to discover on nearly every page. This sister team has triumphed in presenting us with a tale whose beauty and read-out-loud-ability will bring the listener to tears. Like the beautiful butterflies sprinkled throughout the story, a child’s imagination will flit from fancy to fears, and then will finally alight on the flower of God’s reassurance. I cannot wait to add this volume to my collection, and I eagerly await their next creation!”
And when is their next creation?
“We will be releasing their second title, Rose, the Bubble-Breathing Dragon, in the spring of 2008,” Perez said.
