Portsmouth, RI - Summer 2007 - LLD Specialty Sales

Between moving their Manhattan offices, and needing to empty a warehouse full of weaving artifacts, fabulous fabrics, and surprises from their historic archives, Scalamandre has put together a grand sales event for New York summer shoppers.

The artifacts, fabrics, trims, and assorted antiques will be found at 943 Third Avenue, with shopping open to the public Monday through Saturday from 10 am to 6 pm.

The Scalamandre In The City Sale is presented by LLD Specialty Sales of Rhode Island; the same group that ran the hugely successful Scalamandre sales in Long Island City two years ago.

“It’s great to be back,” said Jill Wilson, principle of LLD Specialty Sales, “we’ve maintained contact with many friends and fans since the events in Queens and we’re looking forward to being in Manhattan and reconnecting with lots of good people.”

Scalamandre is known world wide for their fine silks and other fabrics, and for more than 75 years of historic restoration projects all across the country.

“An inevitable aspect of our business is over-production,” explained Bob Bitter, President of Scalamandre, “and eventually our storage and archives become full. So while we are relocating our Third Avenue office, we thought our wonderful customers would enjoy some fun and some bargains, and we’ll reclaim much needed warehouse space at the same time.”

The Scalamandre In The City Sale will feature fabrics of all kinds, from damasks, to prints to piece goods with hand-embroidered details. Also offered will be trims, skeins of yarn, large and colorful spools of threat, and wall paper.

There will be a special section of weaving artifacts such as swifts, iron loom parts, and cast iron loom frames. Also for sale will be several pieces of antique, never before offered, weaving apparatus including an original cord winder from “cord alley” in the Scalamandre mill, and a beautiful iron and wood warping wheel.

“We’ll be re-stocking the sale every day,” Wilson continued, anticipating both the work of schlepping merchandise and the fun of serving quality customers, “and just as with the Long Island City sales, all sorts of surprises are bound to show up. Scalamandre has an extensive archive that needs to be thinned out, and Bob has promised that we’ll be bringing over some choice items such as original art, antique Italian vestments, and woven ‘documents’ that have been used in their design studios.”

The Scalamandre In The City Sale is scheduled to run through late July. For more information contact LLD Specialty Sales at 800-508-0022, email us at service@lldspecialtysales.com , or go online to www.lldspecialtysales.com .
