ProjectScotland goes to New York City!

(PRLEAP.COM) Last month in May, ProjectScotland gave its volunteers the chance to enter into a competition and win the opportunity of a lifetime to volunteer in New York City. Funded by a special scholarship donated by a supporter, the programme involves working with DreamYard on an exciting arts-based programme over the summer to transform Bronx schools and communities.

Despite strong competition from other exceptional volunteers, Heather Duncan from Dyce made the most outstanding impression on ProjectScotland’s Chairman and
founder, Julia Ogilvy when she met all three final candidates in May. Heather was thrilled to be given the chance to spend time in New York whilst being able to contribute to helping schools and students in the Bronx, where one third of their residents live below the poverty line.

Heather volunteered at Live Wire Productions in Aberdeen for 6 months. Her placement involved helping young people to become more accepting and to interact
with others, as well as teaching them about issues such as drugs, through drama. She feels strongly that her experience of volunteering so far has equipped her with the skills she needs to make a difference in New York.
