FORT MYERS, FL — WGCU Public Media, which operates WGCU-TV Channel 30, a PBS affiliate, and WGCU 90.1 FM and WMKO 91.7 FM, both National Public Radio affiliates, recently launched a new website designed by Unique ID Web Design of Estero. The first phase of the custom-developed website, www.wgcu.org, incorporates the latest interactive features that allow visitors to:

- Listen to live radio broadcasts on their computers

- Listen to archived radio features and link to the NPR and PBS websites

- Review the complete TV and radio program schedules up to three weeks in advance and have e-mail reminders of your favorite programs sent to your inbox

- Check out local, national and international news headlines

- Click on special interest areas such as history, the arts, nature, kids and wellness to link to local and national programming

- See and view previews of locally produced programs such as Gulf Coast Live, Untold Stories, and Health Sense

- Become a member of WGCU or renew a membership

- Find out more about corporate support

Even more interactivity will be built into the second phase of the site, according to Zach Katkin, one of three FGCU students that formed Unique ID Web Design in 2005. “WGCU wants to make the site a two-way dialog with their listeners and viewers,” Katkin said. “Site visitors will be able to post comments about shows, make programming suggestions, and respond to the comments posted by others.”

The WGCU website is one of several sites designed for Florida Gulf Coast University departments by Unique ID, which specializes in custom web development for complex sites where an attractive, user-friendly interface is important. The company’s client list includes small, medium and large businesses in the greater Fort Myers/Naples area.
