DALLAS – Lawyers, judges and in-house counsel say that Brian D. Melton, a name partner in the Dallas law firm Shackelford, Melton & McKinley, is one of the top corporate defense lawyers in the DFW area.

The survey conducted by the Dallas Business Journal focuses on qualifications, recent legal successes and overall reputation. Mr. Melton is recognized in a DBJ special report called “The Defenders” that reached newsstands on June 8.

“It’s great to see Brian honored in this way,” says managing partner John C. Shackelford. “He’s one of the finest corporate defense attorneys working today. He doesn’t do it for the praise but this kind of recognition is extremely gratifying.”

In the profile, Mr. Melton emphasizes that professionalism and legal ethics are still highly prized by corporate clients.

“The professional image and reputation of an attorney is a reflection of the image of the company and makes a huge difference in the eyes of the judge and jury,” Mr. Melton says.

Mr. Melton earned his B.A. degree cum laude from Spring Hill College in 1977 before earning his law degree at Southern Methodist University, where he was honored by induction into the Order of the Barristers.

Mr. Melton is the former president of the Dallas Bar Association, and his many professional honors include being recognized as one of the Best Lawyers in America. In addition, his peers have identified Melton as among the top lawyers in Texas in an annual statewide survey published in Texas Monthly magazine.

Shackelford, Melton & McKinley is a business and commercial law firm representing financial institutions, real estate owners and developers, automobile dealerships, and businesses in legal matters across the country. The firm offers a wide range of specialized experience reflecting the increasingly complex legal, financial and social environments confronted by its clients.
