ASD Inc. Helps Drive Efforts in Global Biofuels Industry

June 23, 2007 (PRLEAP.COM) Business News
BOULDER, Colo., — C2B2 is a cooperative research and educational center devoted to the conversion of biomass to fuels and products. ASD Inc. is a global provider of high-performance analytical instrumentation solutions, and as a founding member of the Center joins a roster that includes several of the world’s largest and most innovative petroleum and biofuels companies. Along with industry partners, C2B2 is a joint effort between the University of Colorado, Colorado State University, Colorado School of Mines, and the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory.

“The renewable energy economy is booming right now,” said Dave Rzasa, ASD’s chief executive officer. “ASD’s instruments have already proven successful in biofuel production applications, and partnering with C2B2 is an opportunity for ASD to get more involved in advancing the processes and technology that help shape industry practices around the world. NIR technology allows for cost-effective testing across all production levels, which then leads to increased efficiency and higher quality final products.”

The efficiency of biofuel production can be enhanced at every step of the process, from monitoring soil content to assessing final product energy output. Each phase of this process involves sampling and testing – traditionally conducted in a lab scenario. ASD’s near infrared (NIR) spectroscopy technology allows for accurate real-time testing where and when it’s needed, throughout the production process. ASD technology shortens the time involved in testing the product, greatly reduces the cost of measurement techniques, and ultimately improves the quality of the final product by allowing for real-time adjustments across all stages of production, from raw material to end-product.

“We can help biofuels compete with fossil fuels, both in cost and performance,” said Michael Lands, ASD director of business development. “ASD is at the forefront of this evolution into biofuels. In fact, leading research institutions such as the National Renewable Energy Laboratory here in Colorado, are already using ASD instrumentation at various points of the biomass conversion process to maximize energy while minimizing production costs.”

“ASD’s joining C2B2 is proof of its dedication to helping the biofuels industry create the highest quality product,” said C2B2 Executive Director Alan Weimer. “C2B2 is a powerful entity that is bringing together some of the world’s most influential players in the biomass conversion industry.”

As part of it’s involvement with the biofuels market, ASD is exhibiting at the world’s largest ethanol industry conference, the 2007 Fuel Ethanol Workshop & Expo, in St. Louis, Missouri June 26-29, 2007.
