(PRLEAP.COM) May 26, 2005 – Corel Corporation presented the new plug-in, Painter IX Spotlight plug-in with the main objective of having Corel Painter IX customers find their painter (.RIFF) files quickly in Mac OS X Tiger.

With the use of Spotlight plugin, users can find exactly what they’re looking for within a few seconds of launching the search. Users need not search further and repeatedly since the Spotlight plug in provides for all needed data to be automatically indexed. This data includes all text within a .RIFF file, layer names, file information and image width and height data. This feature gives users the power to search for files as fast as they can type.

The Painter IX Spotlight plug in allows artists using Corel Painter IX to create their portfolios build large artwork collections that live as files on their system. According to Rick Champagne, Program Manager for Corel Painter IX, the new plug-in makes available to Corel Painter customers the full power and capacity of Mac OS X Tiger and Spotlight. Spotlight plug in greatly reduces the time consumed during the process of a search for the file a user needs. Champagne also declared that Corel is pleased to be among the first software providers to support Apples’ next generation search capability.

An Overview of Spotlight

Mac OS X Spotlight is the latest and most innovative search tool to help users find anything on their computer as quickly as they type. Spotlight enables users to search their entire system for files, emails, contacts, images, calendars and applications from just one place.

As soon as searchers type the very first letter of whatever it is that they’re looking for, results are quickly seen. Spotlight provides that every file on the computer is indexed transparently and in the background. Users will never have to experience lag times or slowdowns in their search. Also, Spotlight updates its index automatically once a user makes a change, like adding a new file, receiving an email or entering a new contact.

Spotlight is a permanent new fixture of Tiger’s menu bar. Starting April 29, 2005, Corel is offering it as a free download to Painter IX customers from www.corel.com/painterix/spotlight. The plug in is also offered by Apple at www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/spotlight.
