Consumer Reports Study recommends ETC (Eco Tech Certified) certification to Flash Drive manufacturer Flash Drive Direct

(PRLEAP.COM) A Consumer Reports study http://consumerreports.org has recommended that USB Flash Drive manufacturer Flash Drive Direct http://www.flashdrivedirect.com be awarded the environmental designation ETC (Eco Tech Certified).

“ETC is awarded to only the most innovative of technical advances that save either energy or natural resources or both” states Don Earl, CR contributing Editor. “ Flash Drive Direct (a vertically integrated manufacturer of Flash Drives) has created a new generation of Flash Drives. The energy consumption in both the construction of the drive and its use compared to the burning of CD’s is 80-90% less in Flash Drives. This may seem a small energy savings on a single person use but with over 1 billion writeable CD’s sold each year in the U.S. alone the impact of the energy reduction by using Flash Drives vs. burning CD’s is staggering” states Consumer Reports writer J. Browne.

What is a Flash Drive?
Flash Drives are small devices, their main purpose is to hold or transfer data from one computer to another. “With the major increase in bandwidth comes the explosion of downloading and larger files. These files are often too large to email through conventional means. This increase in file size has meant that the burning of 1 time use CD’s has almost quadrupled over the past 3 years. These CD’s are often used only once to transfer files. The advent of the Flash Drive has made it possible to continually re-use the transfer device. The energy and resources used to construct a single re-useable Flash Drive is less than the energy and resources used to construct a 1-time use CD. However the fact that a Flash Drive can be used an unlimited number of times makes them a major conservation tool”. Ward McLean, ETC Certification.

Flash Drives are fast becoming essential business tools for the next generation. Manufacturers such as Flash Drive Direct have increased the Flash Drive efficiency to create major energy and resource savings.
