Former Univ. Industrial Designer Discovers Solution to Kill Backyard Mosquitoes, No-see-ums

San Diego, CA July 10, 2007 — It took three years, but a retired Industrial Designer from Georgia Tech now has figured out a better way to kill mosquitoes and no-see-ums in the backyard because they're annoying and disease bearing.

"It's really funny when you think about it because in the final analysis it's a simple natural solution," says Tom Fleming, who now lives in San Diego. "It's beating them at their own game."

Here's how he explains it: Female mosquitoes need blood and they need water once a month because they have short life spans. (Only the female mosquito bites because males are vegetarians.) Once a female has her bite of blood she can lay from two hundred to four hundred eggs.

And one dead female mosquito stops 200 to 400 new ones from attacking the next month.

"By killing dozens you stop thousands," says Fleming, "Most mosquitoes are local. They travel less than a mile."
