Goodman & Company LLP, Virginia’s largest in-state accounting firm, has announced a merger with the Chester-based accounting firm West Crawley & Winn. Goodman’s Colonial Heights office formally merged with West Crawley & Winn on July 1, 2007, doubling the number of employees in that office.

“As Goodman & Company LLP celebrates our 75th anniversary this year we welcome West Crawley & Winn and their longstanding commitment to quality, professionalism and ethical integrity” said Tom Wilson, Goodman & Company’s Managing Partner.

“We are extremely excited to be joining the ranks of Goodman,” said Jim Winn, Managing Partner at West Crawley & Winn. “Our management felt this was the right time to take the firm to the next level and this move will allow us to significantly expand our resources and the range of services that we can offer our clients.”

Goodman & Company LLP has grown from one location in Norfolk, Va., to a company with 80 partners and 500 employees in offices throughout the state and in Rockville, MD. While it still caters to the individual client, Goodman also has a strong presence in the areas of real estate and construction, medical practices, retail, manufacturing, banking, legal and other professional services, distribution, government contracting, employee benefits, audit and attestation services, international tax issues, tax credit and business consulting.

“As we began our conversations with West Crawley & Winn, we were pleased to learn the extraordinary similarities between our companies,” said Gary Thomson, Regional Managing Partner for Goodman & Company LLP. “They are very similar in size to our Colonial Heights office, and like Goodman, their partners have close ties to the community.” The Chester office of West Crawley & Winn employs three partners and approximately 20 staff members. Goodman’s Colonial Heights office also has three partners and approximately 20 staff members.

“The merging of our two offices solidifies our commitment to this region and creates incredible opportunities as we prepare for the expected growth in the Southern Chesterfield and Tri-Cities area with the expansion of Fort Lee and other economic development,” said Boston Lackey, Partner-in-Charge of Goodman’s Colonial Heights office. “We’re happy to expand our level of service in the region.”

Goodman plans to consolidate both offices into a new location in Chester Village Green by late fall.
