AA rosette restaurant The Maynard in Grindleford is to hold a regular wine tasting evening in partnership with local wine expert, John Hattersley. The first Maynard wine tasting of the year will be held on Wednesday 5 September. The theme will be ‘Bella Italia’, exploring the quality wines of some of Italy’s most famous wine producing regions. A three course meal will be included to complement the wines being tasted, and the total package costs just £30.

The event has been priced to attract those who enjoy good food and wine but who don’t necessarily consider themselves ‘experts’. “We don’t expect everyone to spit out all that lovely wine and we are expecting it to be an informal, entertaining evening. Regardless of your current knowledge of wines, everyone is welcome,” said The Maynard’s director, Paul Downing.

Tickets are strictly limited, so call 01433 630321 as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

Visitors from Sheffield and Dore in particular are being encouraged to leave the car at home and take the train. Paul Downing added: “This is the perfect opportunity to let the train take the strain! We are only a minute’s walk from Grindleford station and we are encouraging people to take the train from Dore or Sheffield and enjoy the wine tasting evening to the full. Dore is only 7 minutes away by train, and Sheffield City centre only 13 minutes away; hence people can get here very quickly and totally relax - in the knowledge that they can get home safely without worrying about the car and at a fraction of the cost of a taxi.

John Hattersley said: “The Maynard is renowned for its stunning location and excellent quality of food and accommodation. The view down the Hope Valley from The Maynard’s restaurant is the finest around and it’s the perfect location for an evening of quality food and wine. For the uninitiated, it really doesn’t matter if you’ve not been on a wine tasting event before; if you are familiar with wine tastings, great – if not, even better.
”At The Maynard’s regular wine tastings, we will aim to de-mystify the world of wine and help you make informed decisions on your wine purchases, based on your own personal taste and preferences. For anyone who can’t take wine too seriously and just fancies a relaxing night out and a few glasses to wash down a fantastic three-course meal, you will be in good company.”
