NAZZ ( featuring Stewkey ) to make rare 'one off' concert appearance in Massachusetts, August 17th.

(PRLEAP.COM) The legendary psych-pop band NAZZ will make a rare ‘one off’ concert appearance on August 17th, marking the 40th anniversary of the group’s inception. In the summer of 1967, a new band came into being. The name of the band was NAZZ ( coined from the Yardbirds song ‘Nazz are Blue ). NAZZ formed out of the ashes of Philadelphia bar scene regulars ‘Woody’s Truckstop’ who brought guitarist Todd Rundgren and bassist Carson van Olsten into the fold. The remaining two members were drummer Thom Mooney;who had a heavy Keith Moon like approach, and Rhode Island native ‘Stewkey’ handling vocals.

Heralded as ‘the next big thing’ on both sides of the Atlantic, by 1969 the group had released three LPs, and various singles, including ‘Hello it’s Me’ and ‘Open my Eyes’.

As the decade drew near to an end, so did the band, with Rundgren becoming more and more controling as his own star power rose as a solo artist. After Todd’s departure, the band continued for a short time to press on with a notable appearance at the Texas International Pop Festival.

In the late 1990’s Stewkey reformed the band with an all new Philadelphia lineup. Now forty years after it’s inception NAZZ is ripping up the stage with a ‘full throttle’ show that includes classic tunes and heavy new numbers. Come celebrate the ‘return of Nazzrock’ and see them live at Point Breeze on Webster Lake, Webster Massachusetts,Friday, August 17th.
