bloomfield Hills, MI. July 29, 2007. For Immediate Release. Each month offers its own special bargains, and August is no exception. Gonicofish.com, America’s most unique online shopping site, offers suggestions of what to look for as summer winds down.

“I love working with Fortune 500 companies and quality boutiques to bring customers savings online,” says Gina Bassman, founder and CEO of Gonicofish.com.

Bassman, a former financial executive for the Detroit Lions, left the corporate world in order to spend more flexible time with her family. While at home, she decided to do some comparison shopping on the web, and she visited several sites that promised the web’s latest bargains from all kinds of stores. She discovered that she, like many consumers, got lost on these sites, which often consist of long, unorganized, outdated lists of deals.

Never one to sit still for long, Bassman decided to create her own, customer-friendly shopping site. She taught herself web construction and design and developed her own easy-to-navigate layout. Customers to her site, Gonicofish.com, can quickly identify the web’s latest and best coupons and deals from over 1,000 carefully chosen merchants. Gonicofish.com is a free resource for shoppers, and the company’s aim is to provide a fun and easy way for consumers to save money.

To that end, Gonicofish.com offers the following tips for finding bargains online in August:

1) In most parts of the U.S., there are still many weeks of hot weather ahead. But, in the world of retail, summer is over. Now is the time to scoop up bargains on summer items, such as patio furniture, grills, swimwear, and seasonal clothing. You can either get some use out of these items now, or you can save them for next summer.
2) Across the U.S., students return to school anywhere from the first week in August until late September. Merchants are already offering back-to-school prices. August is a great month to stock up on supplies for children ranging from kindergarteners to students in graduate school. Look for paper, notebooks, clothing, and items to furnish dorm rooms or student apartments.
3) It may be hard to think of holiday trees and stockings when the dog days of summer are still upon us. As of July 27, however, there are only 151 shopping days left until December 25th. It’s not too early to plan your holiday shopping budget. If you begin now to work in buying gifts and holiday supplies as you can, you will save a lot of strain on your end-of-the year budget. If you come into holiday season at least somewhat prepared, you will also save yourself end-of-the-year stress.
4) August’s birthstone is Peridot. You don’t have to be born in August to enjoy this beautiful stone. Look for jewelers to offer Peridot jewelry, and select an item as a gift for a friend’s August birthday or for yourself.
5) August is one of the nation’s harvest months. Familiarize yourself with what foods are harvested in your region during August. Build your menus around these foods in order to save money and to improve the nutritional quality of your meals. Smaller markets will be more likely to carry August’s bounty. Check the labels or ask the market owner to make sure that the produce does, indeed, come from your region.
