INDEPENDENT FOOSBALL PROMOTIONS ANNOUNCES THE 2007 $30,000 KENTUCKY STATE FOOSBALL CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT

Lexington, KY – All around the world athletes are training, conditioning and studying each other's moves in preparation for a very unique sports competition: the 15th Annual Kentucky State Foosball Championships. To be held August 1st thru 5th at the Holiday Inn North at 1950 Newtown Pike in Lexington, this event is expected to draw over 400 table soccer (a.k.a. "foosball") players, including members of the U.S. National Team. The tournament will include categories for men, women and children from beginner to Master, and will additionally feature the “foosball” events of the Blue Grass Summer Games.

Now recognized as an International Table Soccer Federation (ITSF) Master Series event, the annual Kentucky tournament has even been elevated to international tour status. This means the competition is likely to draw match ups between top American players such as defending champion and USA #1-ranked Billy Pappas, 22, of Lowell, MA and other U.S. Team members against National Team members from Canada, Ireland, Germany, the United Kingdom and more. Players at the Master levels will not only compete for cash and prizes at the event, but also for qualifying points to compete at the ITSF World Championship Finals in St. Vincent, Italy this coming October. Competition this year will also feature a qualification event for U.S. National Junior Singles Champion, with the winner earning both a trip to the world finals in Italy and also a berth on the U.S. National Team.

The tournament is organized by Kentucky’s own Independent Foosball Promotions and sanctioned by both the United States Table Soccer Federation and ITSF. It is open to all spectators and press, and there is no admission fee to enter the tournament room. Opening events begin at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 1st, with most finals occurring on Sunday the 5th. The Blue Grass State Games events are on Saturday the 4th and include 17 & under Singles, 12 & under Singles, Parent/Child Doubles, and more. You must be pre-registered for the Blue Grass Games (see: www.bgsg.org), but for IFP events players can register on site. All competition will be on Brunswick’s Tornado Table Soccer™ tables, and tables will be set on free play.

Other ITSF 2007 World Tour events are scheduled for Austria, Belgium, Canada, Costa Rica, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Poland, South Africa, United States (Minnesota, Nevada, and Texas), the UK and more. In fact, this year’s five-continent, 62 tournament tour will be the largest worldwide table soccer pro tour ever!!
