Popular UK TV property programme and glossy magazine Grand Designs, (which is presented by Kevin McCloud), short-listed UK garden offices/buildings company The Qube for the 2007 Grand Designs Magazine Awards.

Grand Designs Awards holds an annual awards ceremony where companies and their products are carefully selected for their innovation, design and use of eco friendly technology in the property renovation market. Companies are only considered when they can demonstrate that their product fully meets the stringent criteria set down by the professional panel of judges.

We also asked how The Qube was considered and why it has been short listed for the Grand Design Awards?

Part of the rigorous criteria that The Qube had to meet to be considered for the Grand Design Awards was:

The Idea: The Qube was developed to provide a quality work/life style environment, a garden room, ideal for a home office or leisure room. Built using the very latest building technologies, which offer fantastic heat and sound insulation, the Qube is modern, contemporary and eco friendly.

The Market: The Qube took two years to research and develop, testing materials for their heat insulation properties and fittings for their build quality and durability. All this testing has created a product that is simply way a head of its field in terms of using up-to-date, modern building technologies to create your garden offices and rooms.

Exclusively using SIP (structural insulated panels) the revolutionary heat efficient building system that provides the walls, floor and roof with tremendous heat retention. Complimented with hi-tech powder coated aluminium bi-folding and fully retractable double glazed doors, these are the heart and soul of The Qube garden offices and rooms.

The Qube is short-listed with 5 other sites within The Grand Designs Awards Best Outdoor Product category, the shortlist contains products and companies from Spain, America and the UK.

We spoke to Mick Spittle of The Qube to find out why these types of new living and working spaces are proving so popular with customers and the awards judges?

“Home workers now represent 30 percent of the working population, with the UK’s nightmare traffic congestion, rising office rents, spiralling commute and travel costs, this figure is predicted to rocket in the next ten years”.

Mr Spittle also said. “We recognised there was a real need for a rapid build, modern designed, work or living space, ideal for the garden.

The Qube has striking design details. It has a funky, modern, contemporary look, and in 95% of cases there is no need for planning permission or building regulations.

In fact more often than not the value The Qube adds to your house will cover the build cost. We use cutting edge design and building materials that dramatically reduce the build time and produce a quality, thermally efficient garden room for work or living space.”
