Hutchison Law Group Completes Annual Compensation Survey
A total of 23 companies participated in the survey. All participants are located within North Carolina and have received equity financing from an institutional investor or equity financing of at least $500,000 from angel investors.

Hutchison Law Group’s study measures salary, bonus and equity ownership levels among the top seven executive-level positions typically associated with information technology and life science companies. The survey results assist current and prospective clients in structuring compensation packages for top executives, a key issue for North Carolina companies.
“Comparing salaries and bonuses is reasonably easy,” commented Hutchison Law Group Member and Employment Group Practice Leader Kathy Worm. “However, it’s more difficult to analyze and compare equity compensation, since companies have such varied capital structures. In addition, the national compensation data is skewed by places like Massachusetts and California. We believe that our survey provides a more accurate view of the compensation practices of North Carolina companies and thus becomes much more helpful to information technology and life science companies in the region.”
The proprietary compensation survey is a product of Hutchison Law Group’s Employment Law Practice. This group advises and represents employers and individual executives in employment matters, including the offer process and negotiation of employment agreements, compensation issues, reviews and performance improvement issues, terminations and reductions in force.
