LOCAL YOUTH ADVOCACY AGENCY PARTNERS WITH NATIONAL THEATRE PRODUCTION TO HELP AFRICAN-AMERICAN MEN “TALK”

PRLEAP.COM) UNIVERSITY PARK, IL – What happens when five African American men (all different ages and life experiences) get together to watch the game and the TV mysteriously malfunctions? The new hit multi-media stage play “Real Men Talking”.
"Real Men Talking” uses a mix of “live” theatre, music and multi-media avenues to explore the stereotypes and challenges faced by African American men throughout the country. This experience takes these men, as well as the audience on a journey that forces them to explore issues which include accountability, relationships, self-esteem, incarceration, history, fatherhood and the falsehood of the streets.
“Real Men Talking” features video appearances from the man next door to some of America’s highest profile celebrities including Common, Hill Harper and Dr. Cornell West just to name a few. The play is Executively produced and co-written by Marlon Smith, world renowned motivational speaker and contributing author on “Chicken Soup for the Soul” and features Chicago’s own Mark Simmons of “Barbershop I and II”, “Roll Bounce” and Bet’s “Comic View”,
Illinois Youth Advocate Program (ILYAP) will be hosting a special “Saturday Evening Invitation Only Reception” at the Center for the Performing Arts at Governors State University, 1 University Parkway, University Park, IL on Saturday, August 11, 2007 from 5:30 to 9:00 pm. This event will introduce Producer/Director Flemuel “Fleetwood” Brown, III as well as cast members of his multi media stage play “Real Men Talking Guests will have an opportunity to preview an abbreviated version of “Real Men Talking” as well as meet Brown and the cast of the play. About Illinois Youth Advocate Program
ILYAP, located in the former Elmer G. Kich School in Harvey, is the local affiliate of the National Youth Advocate Program. The agency serves abused, neglected and troubled youth involved with the juvenile justice and child welfare systems. ILYAP is working with Brown and a group of citizens from area business, schools and churches to present the play and the “Real Men Talking” training to 8,000 youth and families in the Chicago and south suburban area. With the recent wave of crime among youth, the group seeks to unite and explore ways to affect state and local policy and promote accountability, respect and conflict resolution among young people.
