New York City/ Washington, D.C., – Mantra Media Design announced today that it has added “Book Previews” to their line of video production services. Targeted towards authors and publishers, the Book Previews are a response to the publishing industry’s growing demand for promotional tools that take advantage of new media technology.

“The publishing industry has started to embrace the new Internet video reality,” said Mantra Media Design co-founder Harry Seldom. “ With 72% of web users now connecting with high speed lines - up from just 57% one year ago – there’s a greater opportunity for authors and publishers to use video as a marketing and promotional tool. And advances in new media technology have brought the cost of producing and distributing professional quality video well within the reach of publishers and even self-publishing authors.”

A Book Preview, like a movie trailer, tempts viewers to buy and read a book by combining video, graphics, animation, text, voiceover, and music to convey a sense of what a book is about, why it’s compelling, and why people will want to read it. Authors and publishers typically use Book Previews by placing them on author, publisher, and bookseller websites, on video-sharing websites like YouTube, in e-mails, in Electronic Press Kits, and in target-audience blogs.

The use of online video to promote literature has been slowly gaining momentum as publishers search for new ways to sell books in a sluggish market. As multimedia comes to dominate the World Wide Web, publishers and authors have become increasingly eager to start using this media-blending form of marketing.

Author Michelle Moran commissioned a Book Preview to promote her new novel Nefertiti, and saw traffic on her site increase dramatically after it became a key component of her online marketing strategy. “I think that before a book debuts, it's tremendously helpful to the reader to hear and see the world that they will be entering upon purchasing and receiving a novel,” Moran said. Moran’s book, published by Crown, joins Mantra Media Design’s collection of Book Previews for such clients as authors Tina Cassidy and James M. Elson, and publishers such as Random House, Disinfo, and The Parapsychology Foundation.
