Little Pen Pal Launches Unique Pen Pal Service for Children

(PRLEAP.COM) ATLANTA (August 2007) — Little Pen Pal LLC proudly declares that snail mail is back, and introduces an exciting new subscription service for children age three through ten. The service delivers stories from imaginary characters right to a child’s mailbox, in the form of letters in which the child’s chosen character speaks directly to him or her as if writing to a close friend. Each envelope, and the letter inside, is addressed to the child using the child’s name. Global not only in appeal but also in scope, letters from Little Pen Pals are deliverable to children all over the world, whether they live in Miami, USA, or Manchester, England.

The inspiration for the concept came from a source very close to home: The two young children of the company’s founder, Danish transplant Thomas Pedersen. He was intrigued by the excitement his sons would show whenever they received letters from family back home. He comments, “In these days of email and IM, who knew that something as ordinary as snail mail could get children so excited? But maybe that’s the point. In a time when so much of communication is ephemeral, just a bunch of information bytes racing through cable lines or the air, letters are tangible, physical—you can see, touch, and feel them. They’re personal. They’re real.”

Thomas started the venture with the idea of inspiring in other children the same excitement that his children feel when they receive mail. Additionally, he wanted the concept to speak to issues including cultural literacy, respect for diversity, and appreciation for languages. To that end, Little Pen Pal characters come from all over the world, and more Little Pen Pals from fascinating places around the globe are being added on an on-going basis. Though currently all-English, the site and pen pal letters will soon be available in Spanish and other languages.
