Run and Gun Pictures releases first feature film free online

(PRLEAP.COM) In late 2003 a (at the time) unregistored company, Run and Gun Pictures started production on a film entitled, "Quest for the Golden Rod". With $4000 in loans, the director, screenwriter, cinematographer, audio engeer (and any other title you wish to give him) put up on his own. He then set out a casteing call, and found that there were very few people interested in making a "Narrative" film at The Evergreen State College. This was a disapointment, but he then turned to his friends, many of whom participated with him in the Foundations of Performing Arts program and found a brother/sisterhood of actors ready and willing to inact his vision. He then procede to take measurements and produce costumes and props, do read throughs and prepare makeup all from his tiny apartment in Olympia’s Cooper’s Glenn. By the start of Fall he was ready to start filming. Only to run aground when several key actors fell out, one was offered a lead role in Pirates of Pennesance the other caught a deadly parrisite during a 2 week vacation to Japan that kept him hospitalised for almost a full year. A quick sex change to a key character and emergancy casteing call gave William just enough actors to attempt his masterpeice. His 13 day shooting schedual stretched out to 8 months. Scenes were cut, actors quit, a cabin burned down and many other hard ships fallowed during those 8 months. Then came editing which stretched on over two years til at last July 31st it was finally completed. Having made many sacrifices over the past 3 years the film did not come as William invisioned it, but was the one key element he wanted it to be, entertaining.

The movie, “Quest for the Golden Rod,” is a fantasy film spoof consisting of an array of vignettes paying tribute/parodying various fantasy films from the Lord Of The Rings trilogy through Willow, the Harry Potter series, Legend, The Incredible Hercules, and The Magic Sword. This is all held together by an all encompassing plot.

The reason Run and Gun Pictures chose this genre is that it, "fills a gap the industry has left void. Within the last five years there has only been one film made in mass distribution (Lord Of The Strings(tm)) that is a fantasy spoof, and with the rebirth of the fantasy genre, there is obvious demand for additional films." - William A. McDonald, Director, Screenwriter, Editor, Actor, Sept. 2004

The film itself contains a horde of twisted fantasy movie stereotypes. A drunken bounty hunter (Ivan), a lazy cleric (Gleobryn), a bondage fairy (Nyll), a Shakespearean troll (Lothei), a gay golemist (Adolf the gay), and a transgendered wizard (Steve the enchanter) forge a misfit group of adventurers questing for the Golden Rod. The legendary rod is hidden away deep in an impenetrable chamber inside a dangerous and foreboding mountain. Within the rod is the last remaining copy of William Shakespeare’s works. In their way is the evil Zacery Zancose, a time traveling wizard bent on the rods’ destruction. Zacery has the dark arts and an army of orks on his side. The adventures have a stockpile of mead and the powers of goodness and light. Prepare yourself for an "epic" battle or at least as epic as $4000 dollars can buy.

Unforchanently most film festivals closed their admissions by July 30th. This left him high and dry, he was eithor to wait almost a full year to have people see this project or find another way of attracting an audeince. Plus there was the substanial debt he has grown from the film and his education. In a desprete attempt to generate online recognision and income he posted the intire film free online to the world at Revver.com. His hope being that people click the ads at the end of the movie parts in order to generate revenue.
